Maintaining your electric bike

When to service your electric bike?

Regularly

Recharge your battery daily is crucial to avoid an unexpected breakdown.

Additionally, to maximize the life of the lithium battery, it is recommended to recharge it daily rather than waiting for it to completely drain.

Maintain tire pressure: Tires deflate naturally over time. Be sure to check the pressure regularly (recommended between 0,8 and 1,4 bar for a fat bike like the Bolide) for optimal riding.

Maintain your channel: It is crucial to oil your chain regularly to extend its life, especially if you ride in winter or in the rain.

The annual service allows you to carry out a complete examination of your bike, including tightening of components, inspection of brakes, transmission, wheels and tires.

Depending on your use, it is possible that certain elements such as brake pads, chain or cassette require replacement.

During the annual service of the second year, depending on your use, the following operations may be necessary:

  • Replacement of brake discs
  • Bleeding the brakes

Still depending on your usage, it is likely that in the 3rd year you will have to change your tires (fat bike tires)

Take advantage of our advice to maintain your bike.

Do you want to maintain the Bolide yourself? Don't panic, the most common operations are quite simple and require no more tools than the kit supplied with the bike.

For better visibility, the repair titles are constructed as follows: Operation – symptoms – level of difficulty

By braking, your caliper (the black block that brakes your disc) can become misaligned with your disc, which causes a metallic noise *tzintzintzintzin* because your disc intermittently (but regularly) touches one of your pads .

This noise can quickly become unpleasant and here is the method to resolve the problem quickly (no additional tools necessary):

You need to change your pads if:

  • Your bike brakes less well
  • or your bike makes noise when you brake
  • or your brake lever almost touches your handle when you brake
  • or you have done 1500km without changing them

Brake pads are a consumable and wear out more or less quickly depending on your braking.

To change them, no specific tools required.

You need to change your disks if:

  • Your bike brakes less well
  • or you have the noise of the disc rubbing even after adjusting the caliper
  • or your brake lever almost touches your handle when you brake
  • or you have done 2500km without changing them

To check if a disk needs to be changed, you must check two things:

  • Its thickness: this is much reduced compared to the central part of the disc, so it must be changed
  • Its veil: a disc in good condition should not have a veil (it must be perfectly flat)

To change them, no specific tools required.

By changing gears, the cable which connects your shift lever to your derailleur can relax, which causes what is called an indexing problem, which results in a problem with the gears: either they shift incorrectly or they jump on their own.

An indexing problem can quickly become unpleasant and here is the method to resolve the problem quickly (no tools required):

  1. Put yourself in the lowest gear (rightmost)

  2. Spin the wheel and shift up a gear.
    1. If it does not come up, turn the screw below in the direction counterclockwise
    2. Turn the screw until the gear shifts.

  3. Continue to spin the wheel, and shift down a gear.
    1. If it does not come down, turn the screw below clockwise. clockwise
    2. Turn the screw until the gear shifts.

  4. Continue adjusting until the gears go up and down smoothly.

If your gears still don't shift well after a quick indexing adjustment (above), or if your adjustment screw is tightened to the maximum or loosened to the minimum, you can try the full version:
